Layoffs

They're tough, and it seems like every company is doing them at the moment. Fortunately, in the USA, companies past a certain threshold are required to issue notices to affected employees.

What is layoff.watch?

Simply, it's a database of currently happening layoffs in the USA across all fields and all states (though I haven't yet added them all).

Why build it?

According to the legislation, affected employees are emailed when these notices go out - so why build it? With my experience in the past, with some layoffs, come more layoffs. I want to know if my company is performing any, so I can start to think about next steps in my career.

How does it work?

Every day, it goes out and collects the latest layoff information from a variety of state sources, and then processes it via a data pipeline into a searchable website.
