Stranger Things Lights
Letting followers communicate with me directly
I'm a big fan of the TV show Stranger Things. If you haven't seen it, there's a scene in the first season where two characters communicate across different dimensions using a strand of Christmas lights, illuminating bulbs to spell out words one letter at a time.
With a Raspberry Pi, a strand of LEDs, and ten years of software engineering, I built a system that allows my followers to communicate directly with me beyond sliding into my DMs.
An Overwhelming Response
In total, over 200,000 messages have been sent to the lights to date. Videos demonstrating the lights have been viewed over 5 million times. The lights employ a series of smart filters to reduce the amount of less-appropriate messages.
This project is no longer live, as I'm on the move and don't have a home to install it in. Check back soon!
